Like many of his contemporaries Bunrei was influenced by Chinese drawing styles in which the objective was to capture the essence of the objects depicted instead of their true shapes and colors. Consequently, he drew flowers and birds only semi-accurately. Twenty-four examples of his flower and (or) bird art were included in a 1778 picture book entitled Bunrei Gasen (i.e., Selection of Pictures by Bunrei). These examples are shown here.
